Questions about this

Why are there two rates in 2026?

The IRS set the business rate at 72.5 cents per mile for 2026, then raised it to 76 cents for miles driven from July 1, 2026.

What should my mileage log include?

For each business trip, record the date, where you went, the business purpose and the miles. A log made at the time holds up better than one rebuilt later.

Do I count my commute?

No. Driving between home and your regular workplace is generally commuting, and it doesn't count as business mileage.
