Questions about this

Is crypto taxable when I sell it?

Generally, yes. The IRS treats digital assets as property, so selling or trading them can create a capital gain or loss. The rate depends on how long you held the asset and on your income.

What is the difference between short-term and long-term?

An asset held for more than a year generally gets long-term rates of 0%, 15% or 20%. A gain on an asset held for a year or less is taxed at your ordinary income tax rate.
